After Mao died there was a power struggle in China. This power struggle included Mao's wife and Chairman Hua who ended up taking over Mao. Hua put less of an emphasis on heavy industy and paid his workers for getting work done. Hua also contruibuted to the early stages of China returning to Capitalism which began under Deng Xiaoping in the 1980's.
