When Stalin dies in 1953 he is repaced by Malenkov who leads until 55. His first act was to form the Warsaw Pact which signalled a less harsh treatment for the Satellite states. Krushcev wanted to rid everyone who still supported Stalin. He did this through a process called De-Stalinization.
